Another visit to the vet this morning.  When Thumper came to us as a kitten 15 years ago, the first thing we noticed were his huge feet.  He looked more like a rabbit than a cat, hence the name Thumper (Tambor in Spanish).

One of the problems is that he has an extra claw on his left paw, which grows and curls round into his foot.  Last night his foot had swollen, so off to Jabalcon Vets in Baza.

Francis gave him a sedative and within half an hour the claw was cut and although Thumper is a little bit ‘drunk’ and has to have antibiotics for 5 days, he is none the worse for wear.

I love Jabalcon vets, they treat our cats as if they were their own and I always feel my babies are in the best of hands.

If you want details of Francis and his team, they have a website: which is in English and Spanish.

About Living in rural Spain

I live in Andalucía in the beautiful southern part of Spain. It is the largest of the 17 regions of Spain and Andalucía is broken down into 8 provinces and I live in the province of Granada. Having lived here for more than a decade I call Spain my home. I am originally from England. I find the scenery here in Spain stunning. There are amazing sunsets and the colours of wild flowers, almond blossom and poppy fields in the Spring and trees in the area are an inspiration.

We have been taking our animals (4 dogs and 15 cats -over the years) to ‘St Francis’ and nothing has been too much trouble. He not only has the ability to soothe the animal but also the guardian who brings it in!!!! The clinic has a huge range of facilities that would take months to bring together and cost a bomb.
