The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is the place to visit if you want to know the rules on taking pets abroad or between Europe and the UK.

Pet Travel rules changed on 1 January 2012

Pet travel rules changed on 1 January 2012 when the UK brought its procedures into line with the European Union.

From this date all pets can enter or re-enter the UK from any country in the world without quarantine provided they meet the rules of the scheme, which will be different depending on the country or territory the pet is coming from.

We brought 2 cats with us to Spain 7 years ago and both have settled in well and love the Spanish lifestyle.

Thumper is always happy to share the bed!

We have since acquired many other cats, some have been re-homed, some have not survived (2 were old and had been feral for many years), but we currently stand at 8 and have said ‘DEFINATELY NO MORE!!!

Although how can you resist when they are so cute!!

I’m OK as long as I have my teddy

OK, No teddy, but you’ll do!!

What do you mean…. MOVE OVER!!!

How come there’s no room for me?

Can you see me?

This solar lamp is sooooo warm!

Even the big ones know where to park!!

What’s all the fuss about?

See you next week, have a good one

You’re a softy! Thanks for the info and website. When we arrived in Spain we had 4 cats that seemed to enjoy the London lifestyle. However when we started to “collect” cats and thefour dogs here in Spain the Londons, as we call them, looked on them as alien species. Sooo elitist.

  2. At least your two seem to like one another. Our two ladies when confronted immediately start the fur flying and hissing loudly. We’ve tried everything. How cute they are.

    • All 8 get on one day and not the next… cats are so fickle!! Like they say, Dogs have owners, Cats have servants.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Not sure about the US but here we can buy FELIWAY from the vet. It’s cat pheramones in a spray and really helps to calm cats down.
